A taste of Season 27 with Senior Leasing Manager Ahmed Khidir

Get the scoop ahead of the new season

This summer has seen me loosen my belt a few notches. But, with great progress comes great sacrifice – in this case fitting into my favourite jeans. As Senior Leasing Manager at Global Village, it’s my job to make sure every morsel that touches your lips is as exquisite as it can possibly be. And if I need to take daily trips to the Railway Market to ensure every bite is perfect, then so be it.

Food and drink are a huge part of the Global Village experience, and as culinary tourism soars to new heights, it’s our mission to bring the flavours of the world to you. Whether you’re craving deliciously crispy Turkish fried chicken, fluffy pancakes drizzled with molten chocolate or fragrant curries that pack a hefty punch, you’ll find it across our many restaurants, cafes and markets.

This season, we’ve launched ten new restaurants and cafes as well as dozens of new kiosks. We are also upgrading our food markets and launching a VIP Cabana offering. Among these are our brand-new double-storey casual and fine dining restaurants overlooking Dragon Lake, offering an elevated experience that covers a range of concepts and cuisines.

Speaking of elevated, we have a very exciting arrival at Global Village this season, and I for one have certainly got stars in my eyes. This season, we are delighted to announce the arrival of Michelin-lauded celebrity chef Rohit Ghai who will be opening casual Indian fusion restaurant Khaojee. Inspired by Rajasthani homemade dishes, Chef Rohit has made a name for himself in some of the world’s most celebrated kitchens including Benares, Trishna, Gymkhana, Hoppers, Bombay Bustle and Jamavar, which was awarded a Michelin star during his post.

In 2018, Chef Rohit opened his first solo restaurant in Chelsea, Kutir, which has gained an impressive celebrity following including Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Roger Federer and Peirce Brosnan - and if it’s good enough for James Bond, it’s good enough for us!

Other new restaurant openings include Lebanese concept Naseem Beirut and famous Turkish fried chicken shop Doyuyo, which will be making its UAE debut at Global Village. Another UAE first is Shobak, a homegrown Saudi Arabian restaurant that is sure to lure in hungry diners with its selection of hot pies, salads, smoothies and more.

Ever tried Austrian cuisine? This season, the hills are alive with the scent of schnitzel as Café Mozart opens its doors at Global Village. The authentic Austrian coffee house also offers desserts, strudels and more on a charming veranda just a stone’s throw away from the Indian Chaat Bazaar, which has been transformed into the set of a lavish Indian wedding for Season 27.

Another foodie gem to have undergone a summer makeover is dessert-lover’s paradise Railway Market, which has been decorated with ginormous sweets and baked goods for the ideal Instaworthy moment. The award-winning Bundoo Khan restaurant has also been renovated ahead of the new season, though fans of the wholesome Pakistani food needn’t fear – the BBQ is as mouth-watering as ever!

No matter how full you are, no visit to Global Village is complete without sampling some street eats. As the largest street food destination in the region, we’re constantly adding new concepts so you can eat your way around the world. This season, we’re dishing up hearty paella, meaty crab in a shell and an incredible West African concept called Jollof Rice, for vibrant flavours guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Make sure you arrive hungry!
